Four MSC ships will homeport in the US in summer of 2025, including MSC World America, which will sail her inaugural season from Miami, Florida. In 2023, Galveston committed to invest $53 million into its existing facilities to accommodate Carnival Jubilee and help boost its profile to other cruise lines. Carnival Jubilee, the first new ship to homeport at Galveston, was voted Best New Cruise Ship of 2023 in the annual Cruise Hive Awards. Now that a deal has been finalized, Galveston Wharves will soon begin work on the port’s fourth cruise terminal, which will serve as the homeport for MSC Cruise’s MSC Seascape beginning in November 2025.

Cruisers can also arrive at the Port of Miami from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), which is about 25 miles away. As is the case with MIA, you have the option to arrange a shuttle with your cruise line. Take the Metrorail's Orange Line to downtown Miami's Freedom Tower stop (about 30 minutes). From there, hop on Miami Trolley's Coral Way route to take you the rest of the way. The trolley drops off at the port every 15 to 20 minutes from early until mid-evening all days except Sunday.

Largest Cruise Ship Terminal in North America Moves Closer to Completion

The ship will be sailing from MSC Cruises’ new terminal for a wholly immersive experience for guests, with the cruise line’s signature European-style service from start to finish. New roads and necessary shore infrastructure including such as water supply stations and passenger embarkation decks will also be developed as part of the project. While MSC World America’s debut in the US is certainly something to look forward to, she won’t be the only vessel sailing in US waters throughout summer 2025. Indeed, MSC Seascape will also homeport in the cruise line’s state-of-the-art terminal in Miami, while MSC Meraviglia and MSC Seashore will be based in New York City and Port Canaveral, respectively.

“When the works are completed, here in the world cruise capital, passengers from all over the globe will be able to admire the superior quality of our work even before boarding the ship,” said Gemme. The port’s recent infrastructure expansion added three new cruise terminals with ongoing construction of future facilities. The port is also finalizing its Shore Power Program that will give the port the capability to plug three cruise ships into shore power. This will allow a cruise ship to turn off their primary engines while docked, reducing air emissions. In addition to offering state-of-the-art passenger service facilities, the new terminal will also be endowed with several office spaces, a multi-level parking for approximately 2,400 vehicles and envisages the construction of a new road connection.

Opened late 2021 with the arrival of Virgin’s Scarlett Lady, this state of the art terminal  – Palm Grove – is located on the north west side of the port (see link to map below). Keep going south and turn left into Northeast 5th Street, where you will eventually get to the bridge into the Port of Miami. Formerly known as Terminal H, Terminal V is planned as an exclusive terminal dedicated to Virgin Voyages.

These automated movable walkways connect with the second-floor loading bridge of the passenger terminal. There is also a separate gangway and processing area for the ship’s crew. The waiting area has 1,800 seats and monitors to keep cruisers updated with information about the boarding process. The terminal has 160 security cameras, energy-efficient lighting, and many more features. Expedited check-in desks are on the ground (first floor) level of the terminal with scanning stations, U.S. customs desks and passport control.

In its second year, MSC will pay $15.2 million and three percent more each subsequent year until the terminal’s 31st year in operation at which point the rent will be renegotiated. It will be on the south side of the port, east of Terminal J, and will be homeport to Disney Cruise Line’s larger vessels carrying over 3,500 passengers. The estimated cost of the renovations is $170 million and completion is scheduled for October 2022. This will be Carnival’s third and largest Miami cruise terminal and its proposed opening will mark Carnival’s 50th anniversary. For summer 2022, MSC Seashore is homeported in Miami, offering both Eastern and Western Caribbean 7-day sailings. Later in the year and into the winter 2023 season, MSC Seascape and MSC Divina will both call PortMiami home.

Thank you for visiting MSC Cruises

Passengers will also be able to enjoy an expansive water park, six onboard pools, 14 hot tubs, dedicated Kids Clubs, and the exclusive MSC Yacht Club, along with much, much more. MSC Cruises has also revealed that the event will include a variety of immersive onboard events to highlight the ship’s features. Undoubtedly, this will include live music, VIP speeches, production show previews, and more. MSC Cruises has long been committed to environmental stewardship, with a long-term goal to achieve net zero emissions for its operations by 2050.

If you’re driving to Port Canaveral for your cruise, you’ll probably drive part of the journey on one of the two highways mentioned above. The port’s north side has three large turning basins for these huge ships to turn around before exiting past Jetty Park and into Canaveral Bight and the Atlantic Ocean. The photos in this article were taken by Cruise Fever on September 3, 2023 of MSC’s new cruise terminal at PortMiami.

PortMiami's cruise terminals -- among the most modern in the world -- have been designed to quickly move passengers from land to sea. Drive-in passengers can opt for convenient on-port parking with special arrangements for travelers with disabilities. For those arriving by taxi, shuttle bus or limousine, drop off is directly in front of each terminal and entryways are designed for a quick and easy check-in and boarding process. The new terminal will accommodate MSC Cruises’ largest and most environmentally advanced vessels, including the line’s newest flagship, MSC Seashore, and future LNG-powered ships. Most ships deployed to Miami will be ready to plug in to the local power grid at berth, in line with PortMiami’s plans to enable shore power connectivity, an advancement that reduces local emissions and environmental hazards.

The striking design has been created by award-winning global architecture firm Arquitectonica, which is headquartered in Miami. However, the buses are more time-consuming and can take about two hours to arrive at the Miami cruise port. Free cell phone waiting lots are available across from terminals B and 2 (north of Seaman's Center) for anyone waiting to pick up disembarking passengers. The world's third-largest and fastest-growing cruise line, as MSC Cruises describes itself, sailed into New York City's Brooklyn Cruise Terminal this week with a glamorous megaship offering year-round excursions to select destinations. Both itineraries are 7-nights long, with the Bermuda cruise including an overnight visit to the Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda. Meanwhile, the Bahamas and Florida cruise features calls on Port Canaveral (Orlando, Florida), Nassau, and Ocean Cay.

Last but not least, MSC Meraviglia will be alternating between cruises to Bermuda and cruises to Florida and the Bahamas from New York, from where the ship operates year-round. MSC Seascape, which will share PortMiami with MSC World America, will alternate between 3-, 4-, and 7-night itineraries that will embark on select Thursdays and Sundays all summer long. The longest two itineraries offered by the 5,179-guest ship will be 7-night voyages to the Western Caribbean and Eastern Caribbean. Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal is a mere 15 miles from Junction 205 on the I-95. This major interstate runs for almost 2000 miles from Miami in Southeast Florida to the Canadian border in Maine.

It has over 1800 parking spaces with automated payment machines just a short walk from the ship. Luggage can be deposited at the parking garage, where it is transported by a huge covered conveyor directly to the ship to be scanned, security checked and loaded. As well as being the busiest cruise terminal in the world, Port Canaveral was also voted the Best U.S. Cruise Homeport. It received this prestigious award as part of Cruise Hive’s Annual Cruise Ship Awards. This annual event recognizes the best of the best in the cruise industry.

With its modern facilities and convenient access to the city's renowned beaches, vibrant nightlife, and cultural attractions, it offers an exciting departure point for cruises to the Caribbean and beyond. Explore the diverse neighborhoods, savor the flavors of Latin cuisine, and soak up the sun-drenched atmosphere before setting sail from this iconic departure point.
